Selena Gomez is here for the happy times.

The pop singer, whose hits include "Lose You to Love Me," "The Heart Wants What It Wants," and "Back to You," said in a new interview that she's taking a beat on the heartbreak songs and making some more positive music these days.

"I'm just so used to writing sad girl songs, because I'm good at that, but I'm ready to have some fun," Gomez said last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. "And I think people are going to like it."

Gomez's appearance on the show comes after the recent release of her documentary film, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, where she documents her mental health journey through the years (she began filming it around seven years ago).

In an interview with Vulture published last month, Gomez revealed that now that she documentary is out, she's getting ready to release a new album, which she has been working on for quite some time.

"We've actually been working for years on this new record, only because I want to be able to grow through my music," she said. "I am the person who's terrified of what will happen once it's out, so I want it to be really well done and representative of where I am. There is a bunch of fun stuff that I'm so eager to leak, if I'm being honest. I shall not. But I'm so excited. It'll be fun and refreshing, I think."

Gomez recently released "My Mind and Me," her first single since 2021, as part of the soundtrack to her Apple TV+ documentary. Before that, her last music release was her Spanish-language EP, Revelación, in 2021, and her last album was Rare in 2020.
