SEE IT: WWII bomber makes emergency water landing off Florida beach, no one injured

A World War II-era bomber made an emergency landing feet from a Florida beach Saturday while participating in an airshow.

The pilot declined medical attention, and no other people were injured, Florida Today reported.

The TBM Avenger was part of the Cocoa Beach Air Show, about 50 miles east of Orlando.

The bomber had a mechanical issue, but the unidentified pilot landed it safely, according to an airshow Facebook post.

“It was incredible. What skill by that pilot,” airshow chairman Bryan Lilley told Florida Today.

The airshow continued and finished without further issues.

TBM Avengers first saw action at the Battle of Midway in 1942 as torpedo bombers for the U.S. Navy. After the war, they were modified and used as firefighting planes.

Dozens of the bombers, both airworthy and for display only, can still be found throughout the world. One sits on display on the USS Intrepid at Pier 86 in Manhattan.
