Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews may have first worked together more than six decades ago, but the duo just proved their long-standing friendship is still plenty intact.

Dick recently celebrated his 98th birthday, and CBS honored his legacy in Hollywood with the primetime special Dick Van Dyke: 98 Years of Magic. As some of today's biggest names on the network (like So Help Me Todd star Skylar Astin) celebrated his life with re-imaginations of his greatest moments on screen, viewers were delighted when Julie appeared in a video to deliver a heartwarming message about their camaraderie. As she detailed what it was like to meet the actor while working on the Disney film Mary Poppins, she couldn't help but gush on how she felt an instant bond with him as she worked on her first movie ever.

"I met my friend Dick Van Dyke for the first time at the beginning of rehearsals for Mary Poppins," she began in the video. "As I arrived on that very first day, Dick was already working with the choreographers and the dancers. Now, their energy was staggering to me... I'd never made a movie before, and I'd given birth to my lovely daughter Emma [Walton Hamilton] merely six weeks earlier. I quickly realized that I had better pull my socks up and get in shape."

She continued: "Dick could not have been kinder, more genuinely sweet and helpful... I'm extremely proud, but also somewhat horrified, to say that we've been friends for over 60 years now. Where did the time go?"

As Julie elaborated on how important her and Dick's friendship has meant all those years, she couldn't forget how much of an impact he's made elsewhere.

"When I think of the contribution he's made to all our lives throughout the years... I can honestly say there is truly no one else quite like him," she added. "I'm happy to know that you can still kick up those long legs as spritely as ever. I could not be more delighted to be here, wishing you the happiest of birthdays. I'm blowing you a kiss and I'm sending a very big hug. See you soon, Dick."

When the clip of Julie's heartfelt dedication to Dick began to circulate on TikTok, it wasn't long before longtime fans gushed about the duo.

"We must preserve them forever ❤️❤️❤️," one person declared in the comments. "How lucky we are to have them both ❤️," another added. "This warms my heart, I love them both so much. Such a huge part of my childhood 💖 they are timeless and wonderful," a different follower wrote.

While Julie's speech was fitting for the moment, it's not the only time she spoke out about her friendship with Dick. Back in June 2021, she paid tribute to her friend when he received a medal at the 43rd annual Kennedy Center Honors alongside Debbie Allen, Joan Baez, Garth Brooks and Midori. It was there she once again went down memory lane, proving these two are in it for the long run together.
