Learn about disappearance and restoration of painting ‘The Carpenter’s Son’

Hear about the disappearance and eventual restoration of “The Carpenter’s Son,” one of The Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum’s most significant paintings.

The painting will be the subject of an illustrated talk at the museum, 396 County St., New Bedford, on Thursday, May 9, at 5:30 p.m.

This talk will be led by Northeast Painting Conservation Lead Conservator Jeremy Fogg, who will discuss the vandalization of this Edward Simmons painting, and the painstaking process of restoring it to its glory.

Admission to this event is free and open to the public, as part of New Bedford’s AHA Night.

The Zeiterion Performing Arts Center launches Stage Door Live Series

Starting on May 9, the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center is adding three shows to its Stage Door Live Series.

SInger/songwriter Rebecca Correia will be performing on Thursday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m.

Broadway vocalists Erin and Matt Ban will perform on Thursday, May 30, at 8 p.m.

On Thursday, June 6, at 7:30 p.m., get ready for Motown Dance Party: Wali Ali & Band, led by Joaquin Santos.

The Stage Door Live Series is held at Kilburn Mill, 127 W. Rodney French Blvd., New Bedford.

Tickets for all three shows are $25 for general admission, and $34 for reserved seating.

UMass Dartmouth ArtTalks at New Bedford Art Museum

The UMass Dartmouth MFA Thesis Exhibition will be free for all the New Bedford Art Museum, 608 Pleasant St., as part of AHA Night on Thursday, May 9, from 5 to 8 p.m.

This exhibition features graduating students' diverse artwork, including painting, drawing, ceramics, and digital media.

ArtWeek SouthCoast at The Marion Art Center

ArtWeek SouthCoast returns to The Marion Art Center, 80 Pleasant St., starting on Thursday, May 9.

Kicking off the festival is the MAC Theater Playwrights Incubator 2023-24 performance of “All the Frozen Ones,” written by this year’s playwright, Stella Ferra. The play is directed by Kate Fishman and stars actors Zara Lemieux and Garrett Olson. Performances will be on May 9, 10, and 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the MAC Theatre. Tickets are $8 per person.

Spin into spring with a community bike tune-up on Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to noon. Coffee and donuts will be available. This event is free, but registration is required.

“Annawon Weedon: Historical Journey of Mashpee Wampanoag,” will be on May 11, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., at the First Congregational Church Community Center, 144 Front St. Annawon Weeden is an activist, storyteller, dancer, and tribal mentor of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, and will be sharing his knowledge through an interactive solo performance. There is a suggested $5 donation, or pay what you can.

“The Magic of Colors & Flowers,” a silk painting masterclass, will be held on Wednesday, May 15, from 6 to 9 p.m. Instructor Lidia Mikhaylova wil lead this easy, relaxing silk painting workshop. At the end of the class, you’ll take home your very own masterpiece! Held in the MAC Studio, the cost is $35 per person, and includes all materials.

There will be a chainsaw tree-carving demonstration with Evan Verissimo of Kind Tree Carving on Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to noon. The rain date is Sunday, May 19. See a piece of wood transformed into a work of art. The cost is $5 per person.

Attend a paint and sip workshop with artist Barbara Healy on May 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. on the lawn at The MAC. Paint your own version of a beautiful sailboat scene. Healy and her assistant Pam will guide you through each step of the process. The cost is $35 per person and includes all materials and a wine tasting. Guests must be 21 or older.

BalletRI presents ‘Cinderella’

BalletRI will present the timeless tale of “Cinderella” from May 10 to 12.

This production is choreographed by Yury Yanowsky, set to Sergei Prokofiev’s score.

Performances will be on Friday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, May 11, at 1 and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, May 12, at 1 p.m.

Last concert of the season at Stone Church Coffee House

The Stone Church Coffee House at the First Congregational Church, 300 High St., Bristol, welcomes The Ruta Beggars on Saturday, May 11, for the last concert of the season.

Combining bluegrass and early swing, The Ruta Beggars are Micah Nicol (guitar); Sofia Chiarandini (fiddle); Ariel Wyner (mandolin); Trevin Nelson (banjo); and Noah Harrington (bass).

Doors open at 6:45 and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Seating is limited, and reservations are recommended.

Light refreshments will be available.

Tickets are $20 per person. Students pay half price, and children under 5 get in for free.

Fiesta Shows Spring Carnival at Dartmouth Mall

The Dartmouth Mall will be hosting the Fiesta Shows Spring Carnival, May 2 through May 12.

It will be open Monday to Friday, from 6 to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, from 1 to 10 p.m.

Set up near Buffalo Wild Wings, enjoy thrill rides and your favorite carnival foods.
