See which Topeka-area boys tennis players qualified for the state championship tournament

TOPEKA — Tickets have been punched for next week’s state tennis tournament. Several players from the Topeka area will represent their schools at the final tournament after a successful regional performance on Friday.

The six singles players and top-six doubles teams from each region earned qualification. See who punched their ticket below.

Class 6A

Washburn Rural and Topeka High will send members of their teams to this year’s state tournament from the Junction City Regional.

Washburn Rural’s Dylan Dodge earned second place in the singles division. Keegan Knudtson earned third place as both teammates punched their ticket to advance.

In doubles, Washburn Rural’s Lawsen Lobatos-Dick and Dylan Willingham continue perform at a high level. They won the regional title over Manhattan’s Michael Hwang and Jack Spiegel 6-0, 6-1. Topeka High’s Alex Raymond and Tate Hodges along with Washburn Rural’s Cale Deutscher and Brayden Kohls also secured a spot in the state tournament.

Class 5A

In the Class 5A Emporia Regional, several Topeka-area tennis players qualified for the state tournament.

Topeka West’s James Maag finished in third place and Seaman’s Gavin Dutton took sixth to qualify in the singles division.

In doubles, Topeka West’s Caden McGee and Caleb Weybrew secured second place, falling to Blue Valley Southwest’s Saket Jagannath and Vidhu Reddy 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5). Shawnee Heights’ Roscoe Poyner and Alex Austin took sixth place to make the state tournament.

Class 3-1A

Cair Paravel’s Drew Fay will have his season continue in next week’s state tournament.

Fay came in second place in the singles division of the Marysville Regional on Friday. Fay defeated Marysville’s Kevin Wicks and Smoky Valley’s Keaton Leiker to advance to the regional title round. Fay ended up losing to Kansas City Christian’s Caleb Bartels 6-1, 6-0. But, Fay will represent the Lions at the state tournament.

Hayden’s Evan George also qualified out of the Marysville Regional. He finished in fifth place in singles to punch his ticket to the state tournament.

Hayden’s Joseph Luke and Chase Blaser are the final Topeka-area tennis players to make the state tournament. The doubles team finished in fifth place in the Marysville Regional to make the final tournament of the season.
