SEE IT: Shocking footage shows bolt of lightning obliterating a tree

Thunderbolts and lightning? Very, very frightening.

Video posted to the Facebook page of the U.S. National Weather Service in Green Bay appears to show a bolt of lightning striking and absolutely obliterating a tree outside a Wisconsin high school. Timber shoots in every direction, the tree’s needles light afire and nothing is left standing.

“You just never know when lightning will strike. Here is a video from Wautoma High School this morning of lightning destroying a Pine tree,” the weather service wrote on its page. “So the NWS slogan ‘When Thunder Roars Go Indoors’ please heed that advice next time you hear thunder.”

The government organization also thanked local station WLUK-TV for providing the lucky footage. The strike reportedly occurred Thursday morning while freshman and sophomores were preparing for tests. No injuries or further damage was reported.
