See Sacramento County’s second ‘safe stay’ sleeping cabin shelter for the homeless

Sacramento County previewed its second “safe stay” sleeping cabin shelter site, 7001 East Parkway near Florin Road, for the homeless on Thursday.

The site is about 2.5 miles from the first sleeping cabin shelter at Florin and Power Inn roads, near the county’s Office of Vital Records.

The new safe stay shelter has capacity for up to 56 people. There are 44 single-occupancy cabins and 11 double-occupancy cabins.

Residents are allowed to bring their partners, pets and possessions. The county said that the shelter would start accepting guests next week.

Attendees at the ribbon cutting included new Sacramento County Executive David Villanueva and Supervisor Patrick Kennedy, who spent the night at the first safe stay site in October.
