Commercial real estate giant CBRE has opened a new, 8,000-square-foot office for its central Iowa branch at 595 Tower, a five-story mixed-use building at 595 S. 60th St. in West Des Moines.

The new development a little over a mile from Jordan Creek Town Center features not only offices, but the soon-to-open Prime & Providence steakhouse and condos. CBRE, which moved in March 6, designed its space to support hybrid work, CBRE spokesperson Derek Paumen said in a news release.

Reflecting the shift to working from home, the office is about 1,000 feet smaller than CBRE's previous one, Paumen said. It's designed with a "free address" approach that allows employees using the office to occupy any available workspace, rather than an assigned desk, according to the release.

Dallas-based CBRE, acquired Hubbell Realty's Des Moines commercial brokerage in 2022, has about 45 employees in Des Moines, according to the Des Moines Business Record. Until recently CBRE operated from Hubbell's West Des Moines Office at 6900 Westown Parkway.

Employees of CBRE's Valuation and Advisory Services team who worked in a separate location also will move into the new building, according to the release.

Office decor, layout designed to impress

Since 2013 CBRE has opened more than 100 similar offices, designed to make hybrid work easier. The office also aims to impress employees, their guests and clients, according to the release. There are large digital displays and a cafe where employees and their guests can meet.

The office features works by Iowa artists. Conference rooms also are named after Polk, Dallas and Jasper counties, where CBRE conducts most of its business in central Iowa.

“The new office in Des Moines is a fantastic achievement," Peter Van Emburgh, global head of CBRE's commercial real estate team, said in a news release. "It also incorporates several hints of Iowa and Des Moines culture, truly making it stand out among similar new offices in the region.”

CBRE has more than 500 offices in more than 100 countries and more than 130,000 employees worldwide, according to its website.
