See All the Exciting Four-Chair Turns for 'The Voice' Season 25

Chance the Rapper, Reba McEntire, Dan Smyers, Shay Mooney, John Legend

Last season on The Voice, of the 56 contestants who made it through to a team, 20 of them were four-chair turns – and a four-chair turn – Huntley – won the competition.

This year, to date, there are only six four-chair turns, so it is definitely looking as if last season’s number won’t be matched by this season’s coaches: John Legend, Dan + Shay, Chance the Rapper and Reba McEntire.

Of course, the fact that last year each of the teams began with 14 artists and this year, the number is ten, could be making a difference. With fewer team members, the coaches may be being more selective than last year with fewer slots to fill.

Being a four-chair turn does make a difference, which is why the coaches want so badly to land them on their teams. Last season, the Top 5 artists were all four-chair turns, so there was no doubt that a four-chair turn would win.

And it all began in the beginning. In Season 1 of The Voice, winner Javier Colon was a four-chair turn. And the list continues with Cassadee Pope (Season 3), Tessanne Chin (Season 5), Josh Kaufman (Season 6), Sawyer Fredericks (Season 8), Jordan Smith (Season 9), Alisan Porter (Season 10), Maelyn Jarmon (Season 16), Todd Tilghman (Season 18), Girl Named Tom (Season 21), and Huntley.

Of course, there are always exceptions. Kelly Clarkson won Season 17 with Jake Hoot and Alicia Keys won Season 12 with Chris Blue, both of whom were one-chair turns. Of course, in Chris’ case, all the teams were filled and there was one spot left on Alicia’s team and she listened to artists until she found someone exceptional – and none of the other coaches could vie for him. Chris was the last artist added that season.

Last season, John was the king of the four-chair turns with eight out of the 20, and he’s also doing well this season with three of the six. Chance the Rapper has two, and Dan + Shay have one. Reba is the sole coach without a four-chair turn on her team.
