Section V girls volleyball schedule, preview for 9 championship matches
If there's one takeaway from the Section V Class AAA finals in other sports, we've learned that the newly formed large school championship is totally up for grabs.
The Class AAA girls volleyball final may appear to be unbeaten Fairport's title to lose when they play Rush-Henrietta a third time. The Red Raiders attempted to run through their regular season schedule with a humble approach knowing this finals match was inevitable.
Seniors Meghan Clifford and Kiera Cornman have led Fairport's 17-0 start, defeating many teams capable of section titles along the way. The only five set match the Red Raiders played was a Sept. 23 win at Section VI Lancaster to avenge their 2022 region finals loss. Rush-Henrietta senior captain Angelia Oechsle guided the Royal Comets to wins in three of their final four matches.
In Class AA1, Erin Mueller's Webster Schroeder Warriors' only loss was to Fairport in the season opener. They beat Penfield in straight sets in September, but Ella Dorritie's Patriots have been here before as they enter their fourth straight finals.
Girls volleyball: Section V scores for the 2023 season
Irondequoit won Class A and went to states in 2022, but McKenna Callari's Eagles are in Class AA2 now, and they'll have to avenge a five set loss to Molly Guzik's Spencerport Rangers for another crown.
The Pittsford rivalry between Sutherland and Mendon continues to brew in the Class A final as another Section V storyline. Attica is undefeated in Class C1, but will play perennial power LeRoy for the crown. Class C2's Harley Allendale Columbia is hopeful for another states run as a fifth seed.
