Section V football: Scores, live updates, highlights from playoff quarterfinals

It's playoff time. There are 20 Section V football games Friday in the sectional quarterfinal rounds, with new contenders, rematches from the regular season, and two teams − McQuaid and Canandaigua − seeking a fifth straight Section V title.

This page will be updated throughout the night with scores, highlights and stats from the opening weekend of sectionals.

Section V's top performances: A kickoff return TD to open playoff quarterfinals

Section V's top games: East uses 4th quarter surge to advance to semifinals

Final score: Brighton 15, Irondequoit 12

Tyler Martinovich completed 7 of 12 passes for 115 yards and Wes Sturrup had a rushing and receiving touchdown for Brighton, which will play Victor in the Class A semifinals.

East Rochester/Gananda 56, Lyons/Sodus 35

Benjamin Newman had four passing touchdowns and a rushing score for East Rochester/Gananda. which moves on to the Class C semifinals.

Final score: Batavia 44, Geneva 6

Batavia will travel to Honeoye Falls-Lima in the Class B semifinals.

Final score: Honeoye Falls-Lima 42, Dansville/Wayland-Cohocton 14

Quarterback Matt Meacham completed 17 of 21 passes for 223 yards and five touchdowns, including three to Andrew Wanzenried, for Honeoye Falls-Lima. The Cougars advance to play Batavia in the Class B semifinals.

Final score: Victor 28, Churchville-Chili 14

Batavia advances to play Honeoye Falls-Lima in the Class B semifinals.

Final score: Hilton 31, Fairport 14

Hilton (7-2) advances to the sectional semifinals for the 12th time in the last 17 years and will face No. 2 University Prep. The Cadets handed University Prep its first loss of the season, 24-7, in the regular season finale on Oct. 20.

Final score: Canandaigua 54, Greece Arcadia 28

Canandaigua advances to the Class A semifinals against East/World of Inquiry.

Hilton's John DiBattisto breaks loose for fourth rushing touchdown

John DiBattisto is having a career night. The junior running back went 68 yards for his fourth rushing touchdown and Hilton leads Fairport, 31-7.

Pittsford makes field goal to take lead against Aquinas

Philip Noyes made a 32-yard field goal to put Pittsford up 10-7 on Aquinas.

Final score: Wayne 22, Vertus 0

Wayne advances to the Class B semifinals.

Final score: East/World of Inquiry 28, Webster Schroeder 14

East (9-0) pulled away with 14 unanswered points to close the game and advanced to the Class A semifinals.

John DiBattisto gets the trifecta for Hilton

It's a hat trick for John DiBattisto. The junior running back recorded his third rushing touchdown for Hilton, which has scored 24 straight points for a 24-7 lead against Fairport in Class AA.

East regains lead in fourth quarter

Zymier Jackson took a quarterback keeper into the end zone to give East a 21-14 lead over Webster Schroeder in Class A with 9:40 remaining.

Pittsford leads Aquinas 7-0 in first quarter

Pittsford has already defeated Aquinas once this year. Luke Connors ripped a 45-yard touchdown run to put the Panthers up 7-0 in the first quarter in Class AA.

Cole Grazioplene scores again for Batavia

Cole Grazioplene took a swing pass for a 5-yard touchdown to give Batavia a 15-6 lead on Geneva in Class B.

Webster Schroeder storms back to tie it against East/WOIS

Drew Hilfiker's second touchdown pass, this time to Tyler Washington, has tied the game at 14 for Webster Schroeder against undefeated East/World of Inquiry with three minutes left in the third quarter. The Warriors had trailed 14-0.

John DiBattisto scores second touchdown of the night

Hilton has scored 14 straight points. John DiBattisto ran for his second touchdown and Colton Thorp floated the two-point conversion to Luke Lockhart to give Hilton a 14-7 lead against Fairport in Class AA.

Wayne takes two-score lead on Geneva

Carleton Green-Dicker's touchdown gave Wayne a 15-0 advantage against Geneva in Class B.

Hilton closes gap against Fairport

Fairport marched down the field and scored a touchdown on the game's opening drive for a 7-0 lead. Hilton responded with John DiBattisto's 3-yard touchdown run but the extra point was blocked, to cut it to 7-6.

Batavia returns opening kickoff for touchdown

That was fast. Cole Grazioplene took the opening kickoff all the way back for a touchdown to give Batavia a 7-0 lead over Geneva in Class B.
