For the second time in two years, six Springfield McDonald's restaurants are sold

Half of the McDonald’s fast food restaurants in the Springfield market are again poised to change owners for the second time in as many years.

Franchise operator Brad Davis said his six Springfield locations will be sold on Feb. 1 to Jacksonville-based Kazzco Inc. – exactly two years after Davis took possession of the properties from McGraw Enterprises.

“I’m retiring. This was a good time in my life for that,” Davis said, adding he knew the locations were in good hands with Kazzco Inc.’s president Mike Kasprzyk. “Mike’s a local guy and does a good job with the stores he runs.

“I wanted to leave my people in good hands.”

The Golden Arches involved in the sale include restaurants at 2100 N. Dirksen Parkway, 3151 S. Dirksen Parkway, 522 W. Jefferson St., 3208 Clear Lake Ave., 3250 S. Sixth St., and 861 Toronto Road.

Kasprzyk said no changes are expected for the facilities, with the possible exception of expanding operating hours where it makes sense.

The Kasprzyk name is no newcomer to the McDonald’s scene in central Illinois, although the acquisition marks the family’s first holding in the Springfield market.

Kasprzyk resides in Springfield with his wife Breanne and their three children. He is a second-generation McDonald’s owner/operator.

His parents Joe and Revella Kasprzyk purchased their first McDonald’s in Jacksonville in 1989. The family’s holdings eventually expanded to include McDonald’s in Beardstown, Chatham, Havana, and Mt. Sterling.

Mike Kasprzyk opened his first McDonald’s franchise in Quincy in 2015 before acquiring the Chatham store from his parents in 2018 and their remaining locations in 2021. He has since sold the two McDonald’s he owned in Quincy.

Today, the senior Kasprzyks are semi-retired.

Mike Kasprsyk said all 11 McDonald’s restaurants will be held under the Kazzco Inc. holding company for now. But paperwork to rename the business Capital City MCD Inc. has been filed, he said.

McGraw Enterprises was Springfield’s largest McDonald’s restaurant franchise operator for more than three decades before selling its remaining holdings in the capital city in 2022. Mike McGraw still owns stores in Litchfield and Williamsville.

Davis, like Kasprzyk, was a newcomer to the Springfield market, but not to the McDonald’s brand. At the time of the Springfield acquisition, Davis and his wife Karol already operated eight McDonald’s in the Champaign market and one in Arcola.

Davis and his father, Marty Davis, co-owned another four locations in Taylorville, Vandalia, Pana, and Shelbyville. The younger Davis has since sold all his shares in the properties.

The pending sale of Davis’ Springfield properties adds yet another name to local McDonald’s lore – which for more than four decades only included two families.

John Mack introduced Springfield diners to the brand in 1957 – a decade before the chain's signature sandwich, the Big Mac, debuted. Mack had sole franchise rights for the market until selling to the McGraw family in 1989.

With the Kasprzyk purchase, three different franchise operators control the 11 McDonald’s scattered throughout Springfield. Kim Derringer owns 2303 W. Monroe, 3035 Chatham Road, and 3420 Freedom Dr. Paul and Mary Breznay are owners of locations at 501 S. Grand Ave. E. and 4301 Wabash Ave.
