WISCONSIN RAPIDS – A second outlot will be developed on the edge of the former Shopko parking lot in Wisconsin Rapids.

Valvoline Instant Oil Change will join Tidal Wave Auto Spa along East Riverview Expressway.

Tom Richards, a partner with Cool Investment LLC — an Arizona-based business that purchased the Shopko building and lot in April 2022 — told the Daily Tribune on Friday that the oil change business would be the second development along the property. The roughly 2,000-square-foot building will stand on the corner of 12th Street South and East Riverview Expressway, Richards said, and will likely open in 2024.

According to its website, Valvoline operates more than 1,700 locations across the country and provides full-service oil changes in about 15 minutes, along with a free 18-point maintenance check while the customer stays in the vehicle. The company operates in about 30 cities in Wisconsin, including at 3040 Church St. in Stevens Point.

City leaders approved plans for TWAS Properties to build a Tidal Wave Auto Spa on one of the outlots near the existing Sudzee Car Wash. In August, a marketing representative for Tidal Wave told the Daily Tribune the company plans to start construction on the site in the spring and open in late 2024.

The two outlot developments are part of the larger Shopko property redevelopment that includes Big Lots, Marshalls, Harbor Freight and Five Below in the former department store. Harbor Freight opened July 11 at the end of the building, and Five Below celebrated its grand opening Friday, although the store opened a few days earlier with a soft opening. Marshalls told the Daily Tribune the company anticipates opening within the next year, and Big Lots has not yet announced a timeline for opening.
