Search continues for missing 3-year-old in Milwaukee after mother, her suspected killer found dead

The search continued in Milwaukee on Tuesday for a 3-year-old boy missing after his mother was found dead over the weekend and her suspected killer died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound as authorities closed in.

The Milwaukee Police Department, joined by local, state, and federal agencies, said it is “actively searching” for Major Harris, who was last seen on Thursday. The same day, a neighbor discovered the body of the boy’s 25-year-old mother, Mallery Muenzenberger, in the backyard of a Milwaukee home showing “obvious signs of trauma,” according to authorities.

Muenzenberger was pronounced dead when first responders arrived on the scene.

On Sunday, authorities surrounded a home where they believed the suspect to holed up. About 15 minutes later, they heard a pair of gunshots and then “located the suspect with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound” inside the residence, police said.

Major Harris is missing.

Police previously said 20-year-old Jaheem Clark, of Milwaukee, was a person of interest in Muenzenberger’s death and a suspect in Major’s disappearance

Major’s father, Carlton Harris Jr., has told NBC affiliate WTMJ of Milwaukee that he did not know why the boy or his mother, who are from the La Crosse area, were in Milwaukee.

La Crosse is located about 170 miles from Milwaukee.

On Monday, authorities found a vehicle believed to be driven by the suspect parked behind a laundromat, about a mile from where he died of suicide. The discovery prompted a brief search at nearby McGovern Park and at least three other locations.

Anyone with information has been asked to call Milwaukee police.
