Who is Sean Kingston? Here's what we know about the singer's Florida home being raided

This week, Florida-born singer and rapper Sean Kingston and his mother were both arrested.

The arrests followed a SWAT team raid of his South Florida home, which is located in the same equestrian neighborhood where Giselle Bündchen and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson own homes

Here’s who Sean Kingston is and what we know about his recent arrest.

How did Sean Kingston get famous?

Sean Kingston, 34, whose real name is Kisean Paul Anderson, is a Jamaican-American music artist who was born in Miami. He rose to fame when his May 2007 song “Beautiful Girls” became a summer anthem, staying at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks that summer.

Also in 2007, Kingston opened for Gwen Stefani on her “Sweet Escape” tour and for some of Beyoncé’s shows on the “Beyoncé Experience Tour.”

His second-most recognizable hit is his single “Fire Burning,” which he released ahead of his second studio album in April 2009.

His third album in 2013, “Back to Life,” became his last major label release after failing to receive the support that his first two albums with catchy singles did.

Soon after, Kingston started hinting at a fourth album that wouldn’t drop until September 2022. He spent the years between albums working on various projects and singles with other singers.

Did Sean Kingston grow up in Jamaica?

Although Kingston was born in Florida, he spent most of his formative years in Kingston, Jamaica.

His family moved back to Kingston, Jamaica when he was six years old and he attended high school there for three years before moving back to the U.S.

Why was Sean Kingston's house raided? Why was Sean Kingston's mother arrested?

Both Sean Kingston and his mother were arrested for charges of fraud, after the Broward Sheriff's Office issued an arrest warrant for various fraud and theft charges against the singer.

A SWAT team raided the South Florida home that he rents in Southwest Ranches, a neighborhood home to the rich and several celebrities less than an hour away from Miami. At his Florida home, Kingston’s mother was arrested. Kingston himself was arrested in California, where he was at the time.

“Rapper Sean Kingston was arrested in California on fraud charges Thursday, several hours after a SWAT team raided his rented South Florida mansion and carted away a van load of items,” according to a report from the AP.

“Broward County prosecutors referred all questions to the sheriff’s office, which has declined to release specific details about charges, citing an ongoing investigation.”

The AP reported that Kingston made a post, that has since been deleted, on Instagram to address the issue.

Several national media outlets reported Kingston’s mother has pleaded guilty to and served time for fraud charges before (in 2006) and he is currently on a two-year probation for trafficking stolen property.

“People love negative energy!” Kingston briefly posted on his Instagram Thursday. “I am good, and so is my mother! … My lawyers are handling everything as we speak.”

USA TODAY reported Kingston is also being sued over claims of breach of contract and fraud by Ver Ver Entertainment. He allegedly failed to pay for a 232-inch TV and premium sound system, court documents show.
