Have you run for elected office before? Yes, Mebane City Council

Please list highlights of your civic involvement: While serving in the Mebane City Council, we’ve increased investments into the city with parks and kept a low tax rate, we have brought great paying jobs to the area and we have added completely new committees (including the Racial Equity Advisory Committee) so residents can find more ways to be involved in local government.

What are the three issues that you see as most important to your district and what will you do to address them?

Medicaid expansion — continue to work with leadership in the Senate to ensure we pass Medicaid expansion that will positively affect all North Carolinians. Fully fund public schools — With a $6.2 billion dollar surplus, we can use surplus funds and invest in our children’s future. Continue to bring good paying jobs to the district — Mebane is one of the best places to bring good business to in the state. We need to continue to bring better jobs to the district.

At a time when costs are rising, state government has a surplus. How should it be used?

Because of Gov. Cooper, we have one of the best states to invest and bring new jobs to. With these new investments, we should be ensuring our schools are fully funded and the state employees, that have done so much for us, have their cost of living adjusted appropriately as well as retiree health plans.

Will you vote for Medicaid expansion in North Carolina?

Yes.

What has the legislature gotten right, and what has it gotten wrong, about public education in North Carolina?

Increasing teacher pay was a good start in the 2021-2022 budget. The legislature has utterly dropped the ball when it comes to fully funding our schools and the infrastructure needed for a good learning environment.

Should North Carolina change its abortion laws? How?

There should be fewer restrictions on abortion after 20 weeks.

Please add anything else voters should know about your position on the legality or availability of abortion in North Carolina.

I support women’s health and am pro-choice.

Should medical marijuana be legalized in North Carolina?

Yes.

What, if anything, should the legislature do to shape curriculum dealing with topics of race, sexuality and gender?

We should trust the science and fully teach history in regards to topics of race, sexuality and gender.

Do you accept the results of the 2020 presidential election?

Yes.
