Seahawks Tyler Lockett, Kenneth Walker officially questionable, signs are they will play

Tyler Lockett has progressed to the neon-green-gloves phase of testing his hand, on the path to playing this weekend.

The Seahawks’ captain and top wide receiver practiced Friday wearing the nuclear-looking team mitts over both hands, including his broken one repaired last week by surgery. He was slapping hands with teammates as he passed them in the warm-up lines in the portion of the indoor practice the media was permitted to watch.

Seattle officially lists Lockett as questionable to play Sunday in its game against the New York Jets (7-8).

He caught passes without pain in a morning walkthrough practice Wednesday, coach Pete Carroll said. He was a limited participant Thursday in the full afternoon practice.

Lockett is vowing to play after missing just one game because of a spiral fracture in the first metacarpal of his left hand. He got that Dec. 15 in Seattle’s loss against San Francisco.

Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith and the Seahawks offense went 2 for 14 on third-down conversions without Lockett last weekend in their 24-10 loss at Kansas City.

The Seahawks must win to remain in realistic contention for the playoffs that begin in two weeks.

Kenneth Walker was participating at the start of practice Friday as fully as he had all week. The rookie lead running back who has been playing through an ankle injury apparently will do that again on Sunday.

In fact, all injured player on Seattle’s active roster are officially questionable to play against the Jets.

Rookie starting right tackle Abe Lucas has not practiced all week with a knee issue he got in the game at Kansas City. Stone Forsythe finished the Chiefs game. The 2021 sixth-round draft choice would make his first career start Sunday if Lucas can’t play.

Carroll has said Lucas, the team’s third-round pick this spring, is vowing to play against the Jets. Last weekend were the first missed snaps of Lucas’ debut season.
