Seahawks get Tre Brown, Travis Homer back practicing; L.J. Collier activated off IR

The Seahawks are getting a first-round pick plus a starter back practicing this week.

The team announced one of its two open spots on the 53-man active roster will go to L.J. Collier. The defensive lineman and first-round pick in 2019 has been on injured reserve since injuring his elbow in August. Seattle had to decide by a league deadline this week whether to activate him or leave him on IR all season.

The Seahawks on Wednesday also designated Tre Brown, a rookie starting cornerback for the Seahawks last season, and third-down running back Travis Homer to return to practice off the injured list. Brown was on the physically-unable-to-perform list since training camp began in late July. He had a season-ending knee injury then surgery 11 months ago.

Homer has missed Seattle’s last four games on injured reserve with an injured rib.

Brown is returning a cornerback situation far different than when he left it. Tariq Woolen has been one of the NFL’s top rookies with a league-co-leading four interceptions. Michael Jackson has been the other starting cornerback over idling veterans Sidney Jones and Artie Burns.

There remains an open spot on the active roster ahead of the Seahawks’ home game against the New York Giants Sunday.

Seattle filled its two openings on the practice squad. Wide receiver Kevin Kassis signed back, and linebacker Alexander Johnson also signed to the practice squad. Tuesday the team released linebacker Christian Jones and running back Godwin Igwebuike from the practice squad.
