Seacoast roundup: Ruhnke leads Portsmouth girls; York's Joyce, Winnacunnet's Vicinus shine

PORTSMOUTH - The top two teams in Division I high school girls lacrosse squared off on Wednesday as one-loss Portsmouth welcomed undefeated Bedford to Tom Daubney Field.

Morgan Ruhnke's four goals and one assist led Portsmouth to a 10-7 win over Bedford. Both teams are now 7-1 on the season.

Annie Parker and Lily Patterson both had two goals for the Clippers, and Ginger Vinciguerra and Georgia Bouvier each had one.

DOVER - Megan Healy had five goals and four assists, and Payton Denning had five goals and two assists for Dover in this Division I win.

Rylen Gray added four goals and three assists for the Green Wave, while Khloe Healy and Reese Sanders both had two goals, and Paige Hebert had one. Dover goalie Maggie Berry had eight saves.

AMHERST - Grace McIlroy had three goals, and Karli Scherpf, Sophia Wilhelm and Hailey O'Kane all had one for Exeter in this Division I loss. Phoebe Christenson had an assist for the Blue Hawks, who got 11 saves from goalies Lilyan Blood (seven) and Molly Byrne (four).

St. Thomas Aquinas 22

DOVER - Kensley Harris had five goals and one assist, reaching the 100-point milestone for her career in this Division III win for St. Thomas Aquinas.

Cat Vetter and Kat Dornan both had four goals for the Saints, Megan Leahy had three, Charlotte De Tolla two, and Julia Bryan, Makenzie Mason, Lizzy Holden and Reece Anderson all had one.

St. Thomas goalie Brea Barker had five saves, while Julianna Grella and Grace Talbot both shined.

BOYS LACROSSE

Hollis-Brookline 9

HOLLIS - The Clippers raced out to a 14-4 halftime lead, and never looked back in this Division II contest.

Zac Amend led Portsmouth with seven goals and two assists, while Ben Purcell had four goals and two assists. Reilly Collins added two goals and two assists for the Clippers, while Lucas Patten (two goals, assist), Briggs Catino (goal, four assists), Alec Lawton (goal) and Cortland Barr (goal) all figured in the scoring.

Portsmouth's Sam Biddle was 20-for-23 on draws, and had one assist.

St. Thomas Aquinas 9, OT

DOVER - Finley Detolla and Jackson Estes both had three goals and one assist for St. Thomas in this Division II loss.

Ryan Resch, Trent Salyards and Michael Ellis all scored one goal for the Saints, who are now 4-3 on the season.

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine - Jack Joyce struck out eight and allowed four hits and one earned run over seven innings for York in a Class B South win.

The Wildcats scored one run in the first inning, and added three in the fifth. The Capers scored both their runs in the sixth.

"Excellent pitching performance from (Joyce)," York head coach Nick Hanlon said.

Ben Brown had a team-high two hits and scored two runs for the Wildcats, and Brody Gullison, John Jacobsohn and Leo Sullivan all had a hit and an RBI.

HAMPTON - Jones Vicinus struck out eight and allowed three hits and one run over five innings, leading Winnacunnet (5-6) to this Division I win.

Miles Pratt had four hits and an RBI for the Warriors, while Connor Fowler and Alex Santora both had two hits. Jackson Larck (hit, two RBIs, two runs), Brady Thompson (hit) and Timmy Knight (hit) all contributed. Knight pitched the final innings, striking out one and not allowing a hit.

DOVER - Jeff Luchsinger struck out six and scattered six hits over seven innings, leading St. Thomas to this Division II win.

Sam Grondin had one hit and two RBIs for the Saints, while Kenny Avery (hit, run), Cade Murphy (hit, run), and Timmy Avery (hit, two runs) led the offense.

MANCHESTER - Cai Summers and Andrew Earwood each had a hit for PCA (5-1) in its Division IV loss. Kian Littlefield allowed three hits and two earned runs while striking out four over 5 2/3 innings in this Division IV loss.

Freshman Sarah Orso fired a one-hitter, and had three hits. Teammates Emily Estes, Bella Santini, Lindsay Rivers, Nya Avery, and Hannah Cleary all had two hits, and Ava Brent and Ella Hickey both had one.

SALEM - The Blue Devils scored three runs in the seventh, walking off with this Division I win.

Maeva Shapiro homered and drove in three for Winnacunnet (6-2), while Lucy Gelbstein, Arden Langmaid and Maddy Eaton all had two hits, and Lilly Snow had one hit and one RBI.

DURHAM - Kate Michaud had three hits, including a home run, and five RBIs, leading undefeated Oyster River (7-0) to this Division II win.

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Zoe Noonan drove home Lilly Gennaro with the game-winning, walk-off run in the eighth inning for the Hawks in this Class A South contest.

Piper Catanese (three hits, two doubles, two runs, RBI), Emily Hester (three hits, run), and Gennaro (two hits) shined for Marshwood. Lindsay Bennett pitched a scoreless eighth inning, earning the win. Hester started and struck out three and allowed five hits over seven innings.

ROCHESTER - Nate Bigelow (No. 1, 8-6), Diego Lopez (No. 2, 8-6), Evan Weete (No. 3, 8-5), Patrick Carroll (No. 4, 8-1), Gavin Beauregard (No. 5,9-7) and John Tran (No. 6, 8-6) all won in singles action for Dover in this Division I sweep.

In doubles, Bigelow and Lopez won 8-1 at No. 1 doubles, Carroll and Weete won 8-3 at No. 2, and Beauregard and Tran won 8-1 at No. 3.

In doubles, Vitko and Ross won 8-1 at No. 1, and Swierk and Bastille won 8-0 at No. 2. Spaulding's Lucy Gosselin and Sydney Daly won 8-6 at No. 3.

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Eliza Naftoly (No. 1, 6-2, 7-5) and Graziella Pavona (No. 2, 2-6, 7-6, 10-7) won in singles, and Dewey Connella and Elena Lochiatto won 7-6, 6-2 in doubles for Berwick Academy in this Eastern Independent League win.

BOYS TRACK

Marshwood wins three-team meet

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Isaiah Perodin won the 110-meter hurdles (16.36 seconds) and triple jump (40 feet, 9 inches), leading Marshwood to a three-team win against Thornton Academy and Falmouth.

Marshwood had a team score of 80, while Thornton (54.5) and Falmouth (50.5) placed second and third, respectively.

Other individual Marshwood wins came from Andre Clark (100, 11.13), Henri Rivard (3,200, 9:49.08), Cullen St. Cyr (discus, 146-7), and Shayne Sandler (pole vault, 10-6).

GIRLS TRACK

Marshwood second in three-team meet

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Sydney Leveille won the long jump (15-5.75) and triple jump (34-4) as Marshwood scored 66 points and placed second in a three-team meet.

Falmouth won with a team score of 97, while Thornton Academy (39) was third.

Marshwood's Riley Smith won the 100 Hurdles (17.61) and was second in the pole vault (7-0), while Mercedez Sanchez was second in the 100 (14.09) and the 200 (28.21).

Cameron Leveille was second in both the long jump (15-2) and triple jump (31-5), Sarah McClellan was second in the 800 (2:39.15), Ava Sanzone was second in the 3,200 (12:37.99), and Maya Sanzone was third in the 1,600 (5:32.73).

VOLLEYBALL

HAMPTON - Marty O'Connor had 10 kills, and Lucas Johnson had nine kills, four digs and an ace for Winnacunnet (5-1) in this Division I match.

Individual set scores were 25-13, 25-10, 25-16.
