Seacoast roundup: Exeter girls tennis hands Dover first regular-season loss since 2019

EXETER — The Dover High School girls tennis team entered Monday's Division I match at Exeter unbeaten in two matches this season and not having lost a regular-season match since 2019.

The Blue Hawks were up for the challenge.

Exeter earned three wins in singles, and two in doubles, pulling out a 5-4 win.

The match was tied at 4-4 and then Exeter's Katie Rocha and Ava Iacobucci beat Tory Vitko and Kate Ross, 9-7, at No. 1 doubles, securing the win for the Blue Hawks.

"Both teams played amazingly," Exeter coach Geoffrey Simard said. "It came down (to No. 1 doubles) and both Dover and Exeter dug in and it happened to go Exeter’s way. Dover is a formidable team and a pleasure every season to play. A great win for Exeter girls tennis."

Exeter is now 4-0 on the season.

Rocha beat Vitko, 8-3 at No. 1 singles. Exeter's Katie Turner won 8-5 at No. 5 singles, and Cate Phelps won 8-6 at No. 6.

In doubles, Exeter's Lydia Goldrick and Phelps won 8-3 at No. 3.

For Dover, Paige Wilson won 8-5 at No. 2 singles, Ross won 8-4 at No. 3, and Mia Mozzoni won 8-4 at No. 4.

In doubles, Dover’s Ashlynn Swierk and Sarah Bastille won 8-3 at No. 3.

PLAISTOW — Stella Sebeny (No. 1, 8-1), Mia Botnik (No. 2, 8-1), Amelia Dumont (No. 3, 8-2), Ava Sebeny (No. 4, 8-4), Emerson Babyak (No. 5, 9-8, 7-4) and Mazie Snell (No. 6, 9-7) swept singles for Winnacunnet (5-0) in this Division II match.

In doubles, Stella Sebeny and Botnik won 8-2 at No. 1, and Dumont and Ava Sebeny won 8-4 at No. 2.

ROCHESTER — Maddy Gagnon (No. 1, 8-4) and Sydney Daly (No. 6, 8-2) both won in singles action for Spaulding. Gagnon and Stella Mitropoulos won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles.

PELHAM — Morgan Hoyt (No. 3, 8-4), Taylor Brown (No. 5, 8-2) and Lillian Alonso (No. 6, 8-0) all won in singles as St. Thomas opened its season with this Division III win.

In doubles, Maggie Wade and Hoyt won 9-7 at No. 2, and Brown and Sydney Andrews won 8-0 at No. 3.

In doubles, Jundi and Porter on 8-1 at No. 1, White and Daw won 9-7 at No. 2 and Lee and Syphers won 8-2 at No. 3.

DOVER — Owen Russell (No. 4, 8-3), Pavel Pazourek (No. 5, 8-3) and Nick Rosa (No. 6, 8-0) all won in singles for Exeter in this Division I match.

In doubles, Exeter's Oliver Berardino and Ewan Simard won 8-5 at No. 1, and Pazourek and Rosa won 8-3 at No. 3.

NASHUA — Cole Deangelis-Poland, at No. 6 singles, won his match 8-5, accounting for Spaulding's lone win in this Division I match.

DOVER — The Saints improved to 4-1 on the season with this Division III win at Dearborn Park.

Alex Molda (No. 1, 8-0), Ryan Whiting (No. 2, 8-0), Jack Smith (No. 3, 8-2), Sam White (No. 4, 8-1), Johnny Kovacs (No. 5, 8-2), and Colby Flaim (No. 6, 8-2) all won their respective singles matches.

In doubles, Molda and Whiting won 8-0 at No. 1, Smith and White won 8-3 at No. 2, and Nick Souther and David Visbeck won 8-5 at No. 3.

HUDSON — Joe Zingariello allowed four hits and struck out eight over 5 2/3 innings as Portsmouth improved to 2-0 with this Division I win.

The Clippers broke open a 1-0 game with three runs in the fifth inning, and four in the sixth.

Portsmouth senior Jake Carlisle had two hits, including a home run, while Patrick Bancroft (three hits, two RBIs, two runs), Gar Hindle (three hits, three runs), and Devin Driscoll (two hits, RBI) all had multiple hits.

DOVER — Charlie Kubiet struck out eight and allowed two hits over five innings in this Division I game. The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Grant Davis had two hits and four RBIs for the Green Wave, while Amari Lewis had one hit and two RBIs. Ryder Aubin (hit, run, RBI), Nick MacGregor (hit, RBI), Wes Angers (hit, two runs), and Roger Mercier (goal, RBI, three runs) led the offense.

ROCHESTER — Merrimack broke a 4-4 tie with four runs in the seventh inning of this Division I game.

Spaulding's Owen Nesbitt struck out eight and allowed four runs over four innings, while Aiden Locke had two hits and an RBI, and Hunter Trueman had an RBI double. Nesbitt, Wesley Alfonso, and Nick Adrien all singled and scored.

DURHAM — The Saints scored five runs in the first and third innings, and eight in the second, cruising to this five-inning, Division II game.

Cade Murphy led STA with three hits and three RBIs, while Graham Willerer (two hits, three RBIs), Kenny Avery (hit, two RBIs, three runs), Timmy Avery (two hits, two RBIs, two runs), Michael Skowron (two hits, two RBIs, two runs), Sam Grondin (home run, two RBIs), and Thaao Papakonstantis (hit, RBI, two runs) all starred.

SOMERSWORTH — Kaden Bickford, Lukas Kelly, and Simon Grandmaison each had a hit for Somersworth in its Division III season-opening game.

DOVER -— The Eagles scored 11 runs in the second inning and nine in the fourth in its Division IV season-opening game.

PCA freshman Grady Howe struck out six over 2 2/3 innings, earning the win. Andrew Earwood had four hits and three RBIs for the Eagles, while Kian Littlefield and Ike Kohl both had four RBIs.

NEWMARKET - Matt Napoletano's walk-off single lifted Newmarket to its Division IV season-opening win.

Freshman Jack Ferrelli earned the win, allowing one hit and struck out four over the final two innings.

Parker Sweitzer (hit, RBI, two runs), Cam Moran (hit, RBI, run), Jackie Prompradit  (hit, RBI), Ferrelli (hit, RBI), Nate Fluet (hit, run) led Newmarket.

GOFFSTOWN — The Warriors scored four runs in the sixth inning and broke open this Division I game.

Maddy Eaton and Fenway Schouller each homered for Winnacunnet (4-0), while Joslyn Snow had two hits and two RBIs.

Lucy Gelbstein also had two RBIs for the Warriors, and Lilly Snow had one hit and scored two runs. Eaton struck out 11 and scattered six hits over seven innings, earning the win.

LONDONDERRY — Annie Christiana, Madi Paige, Kristen Bickford (RBI) and Maddy Mann each had a hit for Exeter (2-1) in this Division I loss.

Summer LeClerc struck out six over six innings, allowing two earned runs.

PORTSMOUTH — Addison Carroll, Evy Douglass, Laura Milks and Brigid Cadle all had two RBIs for the Clippers in this Division I win.

Abby Nersesian had three hits and scored three runs for the Clippers.

DURHAM — Addy Veno struck out eight and allowed five hits over seven innings, leading Oyster River to this Division II win.

Kate Michaud had two hits for the Bobcats, including a homer over the center field fence in the first inning. Gracy Spirito added two hits for Oyster River, while Aliza Parks, Laura Boughton, and Kaiya Mercier each had a double.

NASHUA — Lily Patterson had three goals and two assists, and Annie Parker had three goals for Portsmouth in its Division I win.

Morgan Ruhnke, Ginger Vinciguerra, Addie Delisle, Anya Bake, Georgia Bouvier, Lexi Stanley, Addie Diehl and Ella Souza all had one goal for the Clippers. Portsmouth goalie Sage Bussiere had four saves.

DOVER — Phoebe Christenson had five goals and one assist for Exeter (3-0) in this Division I win.

Hailey O’Kane added three goals for the Blue Hawks, while Karli Scherpf (four assists), Grace McIlroy (assist) and Sophia Wilheim all had two.

Izzy Steiner added a goal for Exeter, and Anna Lieberman had two assists. Exeter goalies Lilyan Blood and Molly Byrne had eight and five saves, respectively.

Payton Denning's four goals and two assists led Dover, while Khloe Healy and Reese Sanders both had two goals, and Rylen Gray and Molly Zielfelder both had one.

HAMPTON — Freshman McKinley Fowler had four goals and one assist as Winnacunnet improved to 4-0 with this Division II win.

Shea Graham and Elle Emery both had three goals for the Warriors, while Skyla Mace and Taylor Burgess both had two, and Tegan Rooney one.

Graham, Mace and Emmy Granger all had two assists in the win, and Reese Gandt had one. Cadence Oleniak and Julia Millius shared time in the WHS goal, combining for three saves.

DOVER — Megan Leahy and Charlotte De Tolla both had four goals, and Lizzy Holden had three, leading STA to this Division III win.

Cat Vetter and Kat Dornan both had two goals for the Saints, and Reece Anderson and Kensley Harris each had one. STA goalie Brea Barker had 10 saves.

ROCHESTER — Kate McCawlry scored the lone goal for Spaulding (0-2) in this Division II loss. Spaulding goalie Izzy Orrell had 12 saves.

DURHAM — Jackson Estes and Michael Ellis each had three goals for St. Thomas Aquinas (2-0) in this Division II game.

Finley DeTolla added two goals and four assists for the Saints, who received one goal each from Aidan Morrison, Ryan Resch (three assists), Trent Salyards, Owen Birch and Luke Daly.

Elli Allaire (seven saves) and Jake More (three) split time in the STA goal.

Alex Strater had one goal and one assist for the Warriors, while Beckett Rath, Tim Kollmorgen, and Lukas Botnick all scored a goal.

Somersworth places second in seven-team meet

KINGSTON — Tayshawn Sheppard won the long jump (19 feet, 4 inches) and triple jump (40-8.5) as Somersworth scored 102.5 points and placed second in a seven-team meet at Sanborn Regional.

Sanborn won the meet with 136 points.

Other Somersworth winners included Deshaun Bailey (shot put, 34-10.25), Seth Worell (javelin, 147-10) and Jacob Pincince (800, 2:13.02).

GIRLS TRACK

Somersworth ties for third in seven-team meet

KINGSTON — Sya McKay won the high jump (5-2) and triple jump (30-7) for Somersworth in a seven-team meet at Sanborn Regional.

Sanborn won the meet with 167 points, while Newmarket (123) was second and Somersworth and Raymond tied for third with 78.

Somersworth's Madison Brogan won the long jump (14-5) and Audrey Labelle won the 300 hurdles (55.24).

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

KEENE — Murphy Wall and Carter King shined as the Warriors improved to 2-0 with this Division I win.

Individual set scores were 26-24, 25-15, 25-23.
