Scott Pilgrim Takes Off Opening Released By Netflix

An opening theme song can absolutely make or break an anime. If it’s good, it’ll perfectly set the mood for the episode you’re about to watch, but if it’s bad, it’ll have you frustratingly and awkwardly searching for a way to skip it so you can get to the good stuff. Netflix just released the opening theme and credits for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, and frankly, it’s a banger.

Netflix posted a video to its official YouTube channel yesterday showing off the opening credits theme for Scott Pilgrim’s upcoming anime, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. We could tell you all about it (and we will in a moment) but it’s really better if you just watch it yourself.

The song featured in the opening is Bloom by Japanese pop punk band Necry Talkie, which has previously provided songs for two other anime series — Eagle Talon: Golden Spell, and the first season of Girlfriend, Girlfriend. Bloom is pretty good as far as anime opening songs go, having exactly the right level of upbeat vibes mixed with some very rocky instrumentation that feels right at home with Scott Pilgrim.

If it’s not your vibe, that’s fine too — at the very least, Netflix makes it much easier to skip intros than some other video streaming services. Still, we can’t imagine you’d want to, it’s a fantastic song with some very cute animation to go along with it, and it only goes for a minute and a half.

Netflix revealed the Scott Pilgrim anime release date alongside a trailer in August, with the streaming giant set to premiere the first, eight-episode season on November 17, 2023. The series sees the return of just about every actor from the fan-favorite movie, all reprising their respective roles, and is being animated by Japanese studio Science Saru, of Devilman Crybaby fame.
