The Scorecard: Seattle nabs Baltimore’s DC for head coaching gig. Plus, confusion swirls around PGA Tour’s latest deal.

Seattle Seahawks named Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator as head coach

The NFL’s coaching carousel is slowing down. The only head coach position that remains open is that of the Washington Commanders.

This comes after the Seattle Seahawks announced the hiring of Ravens’ defensive whiz Mike Macdonald.

Macdonald was signed to a six-year contract to be the team’s ninth head coach. The News Tribune’s Gregg Bell details the team’s move from the NFL’s oldest coach in Pete Carroll to the league’s youngest coach in the 36-year-old.

I thought Dan Quinn would be an obvious choice for Seattle, with his ties there, but it looks like he could be headed to Washington, or maybe a Dallas reunion in coming.

PGA Tour inks deal with Strategic Sports Group, LIV Golf backer not included

The PGA Tour has signed a deal with Strategic Sports Group (SSG) - a group of prominent American sports owners - to contribute a total of $3 billion to its new for-profit company.

But no one quite knows what this means.

If you recall, last summer the PGA Tour announced a deal with DP World Tour and Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia. PIF also backs LIV Golf, which is a younger rival of the PGA Tour. The agreement at the time launched questions about the PGA Tour and LIV Golf potentially merging.

That was when PIF was the largest investor of the PGA Tour…which is now SSG.

Will there be a LIV Golf and PGA Tour merger? Will LIV golfers be welcomed back to the PGA Tour? There are still so many questions.

Oh, if you didn’t know, the Kansas City Chiefs are returning to the Super Bowl to face the San Francisco 49ers

It’s a match up we’ve seen recently…2020 to be exact, before the whole world changed. The Kansas City Chiefs will face the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday, February 11.

And yes, it seems, Taylor Swift will make the trip from her Eras Tour performance in Tokyo to Vegas for the game. In fact, she has plenty of time to catch up on her sleep before the game.

The Chiefs are cementing their legacy, and are no strangers to the Super Bowl. The Kansas City Star’s Joseph Hernandez breaks down the team’s history (a lot of it recent) in the big game.

On the other hand, the 49ers are returning with a much younger quarterback in Brock Purdy. After a weak start in the NFC Championship game, Purdy will need this defining trait to take down the dynasty that is the Kansas City Chiefs.
