A 22-year-old woman was spotted illegally cruising down a Washington interstate close to traffic, authorities said.

The woman rode onto Interstate 5 from State Route 530 at 11:21 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16, in Snohomish County, Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding told McClatchy News in an email.

She rode down the highway’s shoulder for about three miles and was “in and out of the roadway,” Harding said.

At one point, she was in the far right lane, Harding said.

Troopers then stopped her.

She wasn’t cited for the stunt, but “being a pedestrian on Interstate 5 is trespassing” and “it is dangerous,” Harding said.

Harding said drivers aren’t expecting a pedestrian to be on the shoulder of the road, so they may not see someone when they are pulling off for a flat tire or vehicle issue.

An impaired or distracted driver could also hit a pedestrian on the shoulder of the road.

“They’re speeding. They’re texting or changing the radio stations. So, all of these are distractions in the car. And it only takes a second off the roadway and strike somebody,” Sgt. Chasity Van Auken told KIRO-TV.
