OCEAN−Authorities have identified the scooter rider who died in a crash involving a police car on April 15.

Guyvenson Innocent, 35, of Beachwood died at the scene of the 9:00 p.m. crash.

Innocent was riding a motorized scooter on Route 35 south near Sunset Avenue when a marked patrol car driven by Ocean Township Police Officer Ryan Deceglie collided with several vehicles, according to a statement from the state Attorney General's Office. Innocent, the only one injured, died at the scene.

Innocent, 35, moved to the United States from Haiti four years ago, according to his obituary. The married father of one had worked as a diesel mechanic, the obituary read.

A 2019 law requires that the Attorney General's Office investigate all in-custody deaths and those otherwise involving law enforcement officers. Under the law, those cases must be presented to a grand jury.
