Get the scoop: Local ice cream shops open for the season

While New Englanders love ice cream year-round, it's around this time of year local seasonal ice cream shops flip their closed signs to open, ready for the summer season.

We've got the scoop on where to go for a refreshing treat:

Open for the season

Cool Licks Ice Cream - 325 Pleasant St., Worcester

Cool Licks Ice Cream opened in March of this year and typically ends their season around October. With more than 50 flavors available every single day, Cool Licks truly has something for everyone.

Gibson's Dairy - 42 Sunderland Road, Worcester

Celebrating 101 years in the business this year, Gibson's Dairy's Gibby's Famous Ice Cream opened for the season on April 7, offering old-fashioned treats and sundaes.

Howard's Drive-in - 121 East Main St., West Brookfield

Howard's flipped their closed sign to open at the end of March this year. This season, they're offering a number of new flavors including Monkey Bones, a banana-based ice cream with Graham crackers, peanut butter and a chocolate swirl.

Kimball Farm - 1543 Lunenburg Road, Lancaster

Ice cream is now being dished out at Kimball Farm; however, their animal adventures, pony rides and arcade facilities have not yet opened for the season.

Mrs. Moriconi's Ice Cream - 1116 Pleasant St., Worcester

Using dairy from local farms, Mrs. Moriconi's Ice Cream guarantees no artificial flavors. Unfortunately, their store at College Square is closed until further notice for unknown reasons, but mobile catering services are available.

Madulka's Ice Cream - 193 Lake Ave., Worcester

At Madulka's, hungry ice cream lovers will get to enjoy their sweet treats right on Lake Quinsigamond. The ice cream shop opened April 12 for the season and traditionally closes in October.

Meola's Wayside Ice Cream - Various locations

Meola's has three ice cream shops, now open for the season, including the shop at 165 West Boylston St., in West Boylston, the shop at 110 Leominster Road in Sterling and a third located at 1134 Main St., Holden.

Rota Spring Ice Cream - 117 Chace Hill Road, Sterling

Offering more than 50 unique flavors of ice cream, Rota Spring Ice Cream has opened for the season, shelling out cones of "purple cow" and "Indian pudding." For April, they're selling a limited time flavor, Lemon Dream, consisting of lemon ice cream mixed with vanilla cookies and cream. You'll want to mark your calendar for later this summer, when they release lavender ice cream.

Rutland Marketplace, 26 Pommogussett Road, Rutland

The ice cream shop at Rutland Marketplace opened on April 16, offering a number of allergen-safe flavors, including dairy-free and gluten-free concoctions.
