Schuylkill County school board elections have contested races

Oct. 30—Two- and four-year seats are up for grabs on Nov. 7 throughout 14 school districts that serve Schuylkill County students.

Most school board members serve four-year terms, but vacancies can create temporary two-year seats.

In five districts, including Blue Mountain, Hazleton Area, Minersville Area, North Schuylkill and Tamaqua Area, voters will see more candidates than open seats on their ballots.

Per the Schuylkill County Election Bureau, ballots will showcase the following races:

—Blue Mountain, five open seats. Candidates are Krista Strause, Michelle Vesay, Timothy G. Grube, Becky Wehr Miller, Michael Zvalaren and John T. Campomizzi Sr.; Strause, Vesay, Grube and Campomizzi are incumbents.

—Hazleton Area, five seats: Robert Childs, Ivelisse Childs, Ellen McBride, Tony Bonomo, Carmella Yenkevich, Joseph J. Barletta and James G. Chapman are running for four-year seats. McBride and Bonomo are incumbent candidates. Carol Makuta and Bonomo are also running for one two-year seat.

—Mahanoy Area, five seats: Gary R. Gnall, Susan C. Scheeler, Daniel Lynch, Michael Mistishen and Santino Napoli — all incumbents.

—Minersville Area, five seats: James O'Brien Jr., Albert D. Marazas, Michael J. Andruchek, Kevin Wigoda, Keith Adams and James T. Croley II. Marazas, Wigoda and Adams are incumbents.

—North Schuylkill, four seats: Mary Anne Woodward, Roy C. Green, Michael C. Keihl and Raymond Reichwein. All except Reichwein are incumbents. Woodward and Keihl are also running for one two-year seat.

—Panther Valley, five seats: Pat Leonzi, Daniel V. Matika, Anthony DeMarco, Michael Alabovitz and Marco R. D'Ancona, all incumbents.

—Pine Grove Area: J.T. Herber III is running for an at-large seat. Genavieve Moyer is running for a Region One seat, Donald E. Brown Jr. is running for a Region Two seat and Lauren Potter is running for a Region Three seat. All candidates are incumbents.

—Pottsville Area, five seats: Linda Wytovich, Ashley DeWitt, Rachael Shuettler Hobbs, Craig Shields and Kerry Ansbach. Three candidates — Wytovich, DeWitt and Shields — are incumbents.

—Saint Clair Area, five seats: Gerald G. Kuperavage, Erin Troutman Murhon, Jennifer Fegley, Scott Clews and Erin E. Portland. Murhon, Fegley, Clews and Portland are all incumbents.

—Schuylkill Haven Area, five seats: Crystal DeWald McGarry, Melissa Strauch, Scott R. Jacoby, Eric Richard Felty and Dion Fessler are all incumbents.

—Shenandoah Valley, five seats: Jodi Piekarski Loughlin, Joe Buchanan, Daniel P. Salvadore, Mike Donchak and Anita Monahan are running for four-year seats. Leslie Gilroy is the only candidate running for a two-year seat. All are incumbents.

—Tamaqua Area, five seats: Trina M. Schellhammer, Melanie I.S. Dillman, Thomas J. Bartasavage Jr., Jessica Tirpak, Samuel John Koch, Daniel E. Schoener and Larry A. Wittig are seeking four-year seats. Of those, Schellhammer, Dillman, Bartasavage, Schoener and Wittig are incumbents.

—Tri-Valley: No one is running for four-year seats in Region One and Region Two. Stephen M. Klinger, an incumbent, is running for one of two Region Three seats.

—Williams Valley: No one is on the ballot for Region Seven or Region Eight. Both regions have one four-year seat each.
