On the Scene: Boise Phil goes ‘Blue,’ ‘Snoopy!’ comes to life, Horszowski Trio performs

Boise Phil’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue’

Conductor and music director Eric Garcia leads the Boise Phil for this all-American program that highlights one of the true national musical treasures: George Gershwin’s thrilling, classical jazz masterpiece “Rhapsody in Blue.” Gershwin might be best known for this rich and deep American songbook catalog, written with his brother Ira, but this “musical kaleidoscope of America” stands as one of the pillars of the classical cannon. The orchestra will accompany pianist Fei-Fei, a Van Cliburn piano competition finalist and Concert Artist Guild Competition winner.

Also on the program is William Grant Still’s brassy Festive Overture, Jennifer Higdon’s “Suite from Cold Mountain,” and Florence Price’s Piano Concerto, also played by Fei-Fei.
