Scary Movie is being revived with a new movie
Horror parody franchise Scary Movie is rising from the dead as a new instalment in officially in the works.
11 years after the fifth film in the saga — the first not to feature protagonists Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris) and Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall) — the series is getting a new lease on life with movie number six, expected to start shooting this autumn.
The news was shared by Paramount, who's distributing the Miramax-funded picture, at CinemaCon today (April 11). Aiming for a 2025 release, the film is produced by Fast & Furious producer Neal H Moritz.

No word yet as to whether Faris and Hall will make an appearance this time around, nor was it shared who's attached to direct.
Kicked off in 2000 with the first Scary Movie flick, the franchise made its mission to spoof contemporary horror movies and popular TV shows whilst also paying homage to cult classics such as The Exorcist.
Scream, which served as one of the main inspirations behind Scary Movie, recently returned to the screen with two new legacy sequels and a seventh chapter on its way, leaving fans wondering when Scary Movie would follow suit.

As more horror films have been smashing box office records and earning critical acclaim over the last decade, it seems natural for Scary Movie to feed off the current genre landscape for a new outing.
Meanwhile at CinemaCon, Blumhouse announced a collaboration with Lionsgate on a remake of found footage cult The Blair Witch Project, another reference spoofed in Scary Movie.
More news for horror buffs coming from Las Vegas as a sequel trilogy to Danny Boyle's zombie movie 28 Days Later has been revealed at CinemaCon. Boyle is helming the first new film, titled 28 Years Later, while Nia DaCosta (Candyman) is in talks to direct the second instalment.
Scary Movie 6 is expected to premiere in 2025, though no official release date has been unveiled just yet.
