Scaramucci says if GOP goes with Trump in 2024 he'll 'liquidate' the party

Anthony Scaramucci, founder and managing partner SkyBridge Capital and former White House communications director in the Trump administration, says if the Republican Party goes with Trump as its 2024 nominee, he'll work to make the GOP a "minority party for at least a generation."

"I'm willing to fight for the country's principles related to the Constitution and the democracy over policy. And so, if that's where the Republicans are going, and they go with Donald Trump, I will look forward to — because I am a happy warrior — I look forward to beating them again and beating them frankly into the ground," Scaramucci told Yahoo Finance Live on Wednesday.

To be sure, Scaramucci doesn't think another Trump nomination for the GOP ticket is likely however, pointing to the former president's legal issues, age, and competition from aspiring candidates in the party.

"Hopefully, they'll move away from him. I'm not exactly sure what they're afraid of, I know he's a bully, and he's lost his standing on Twitter now; I can't figure it out. But you know, my guess is it will start to wane. Give it a year or two as we get towards the midterm elections. I think people [will] realize this guy's a complete train wreck, and he'll start [to fossilize] before our eyes," Scaramucci said.

The "more likely outcome" for 2024, he predicts, is that Republicans will "try to come up with a different person who will try to blend in some Trumpism with some more practicality and common sense."

Trump floated the possibility of another presidential run during his first public appearance, at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando over the weekend.

"Who knows, I may even decide to beat them for a third time, okay?" Trump said during his 90-minute address.

Trump declared President Biden's first month in office "disastrous" and predicted Democrats would suffer losses during midterms.

"And then," Trump predicted, "a Republican President will make a triumphant return to the White House."

However, Scaramucci, who has publicly and repeatedly disavowed Trump, thinks Trump would be defeated once again if he's the nominee.

"If he's their guy, I think it's very good for the rest of us because weirdly Donald Trump is a unifying figure. He just happens to be unifying all of us against him and those reckless people that believe in insurrection that denounced democracy, that denounce our Constitution."

What's more, if the Republican Party embraces "Trumpism," Scaramucci said there's a large working group exploring ideas on starting another party, with many willing participants ready to contribute money to make a third party viable.

"I think we can get 10% to 15% of the people away from what is now Trumpism, which is this perverse white Christian nationalism, which is no good to anybody, but bad for the world, bad for America. Trump made America weaker, sicker, and poorer in his four years."

Many have speculated that Trump himself would create another political party, a notion the former president blasted as "fake news" during his CPAC speech.

"I am not starting a new party," Trump said. "Wouldn't that be brilliant? Let's start a new party, and let's divide our vote so that you can never win. No, we're not interested in that."

Instead, Trump explained, the Republican party would "unite" and "be stronger than ever before."

Scaramucci, a life-long Republican, said Trump has turned the party into "a Trump personality cult" instead of a principle-based organization.

"I don't understand why they liked this guy. He lost the presidency. He lost the House and Senate. He is the modern-day Herbert Hoover for that party. But if they want to put him back up at the top of the food chain and make him the nominee, I think we can get 10% or 15% of the people to break off and liquidate that party and make that party a minority party for at least a generation."
