A South Carolina university has one of the five best online bachelor’s programs in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston earned the fourth spot out of more than 300 institutions of higher learning considered in the annual list.

The University of Florida took the top spot on the list, followed by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach and the University of Illinois in Chicago.

According to U.S. News & World Report, it publishes the best online program rankings each year to help prospective students pick schools that are the right fit.

“These institutions have the best online baccalaureate-level programs; most of which are degree-completion oriented,” U.S. News & World Report said of the ranking. “For working adults with some college credit, completing a four-year degree online may be the most practical way to obtain the knowledge and credentials needed to boost their careers.”

MUSC, which was founded in 1824, has been offering online bachelor’s degree programs since 2014-2015. All of the online classes are recorded and archived for students to access whenever they need them.

Most of the students enrolled in these types of online programs have earned at least some college credit and are more likely to be working professionals, U.S. News & World Report states. As such, the publication chose factors for the rankings that were not only applicable to teenage university applicants.

U.S. News & World Report assessed schools based on four categories, including engagement, available services and technology, faculty credentials and training and peer assessment.
