State Sen. Stephen Goldfinch, who is a captain in the National Guard, was injured while deployed to Africa.

Goldfinch’s injuries are not life threatening, said Senate President Thomas Alexander, who sent a message to fellow senators Tuesday about Goldfinch’s in condition.

Goldfinch, a 40-year-old Georgetown Republican, is being transported to Germany for surgery and will take some time to recover.

“He’s OK, he’s in good spirits,” Alexander told The State.

Alexander did not have details on the circumstances around Goldfinch’s injury or the extent of his injuries.

Goldfinch deployed in June as part of the 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in the Horn of Africa. The deployment is scheduled to be one year long.

“We’re certainly proud of Sen. Goldfinch’s service to our country,” Alexander said.
