This SC small town is among the most beautiful in the US, travel magazine says. Have you visited?
Beaufort was recently named as one of the most beautiful small towns in America.
The accolade came from digital travel magazine Trips To Discover, which has a monthly readership of over 1.6 million people.
Recently, the travel magazine published their choices for “The 20 Most Beautiful Small Towns to Visit in the U.S,” which featured select locations around the country handpicked from the publication’s travel experts’ personal experience, local knowledge, and research.
Beaufort was the only location in South Carolina to make the list.
Trips To Discover states that Beaufort “almost always makes travel experts’ lists of the most charming small towns to visit in the South.”
Beaufort was described as having “enormous old trees” that “take travelers back to another time and place” as well as being “full of well-preserved and historic plantation homes” by the travel discovery platform.
The City of Beaufort was also recognized for being one of the oldest in the Palmetto State and for Beaufort’s many attractions such as the Spanish moss trails, rivers and historic and waterfront downtown restaurants.
This historic city is the second oldest town in South Carolina and was chartered on Jan. 17, 1711. It was named for Henry Somerset, who was the second duke of Beaufort and a proprietor of Carolina from 1700 until 1714, according to South Carolina Encyclopedia.
Beaufort is home to several historic homes and battles as well as mossy, waterfront walking trails and downtown shops.
Rich with history and southern charm, Beaufort has gained national recognition and interest for its small town charm and notable past.
