The national publication wrote that Charleston “appeals to holiday vacationers who want to experience classic Christmas festivities without bundling up.”

Charleston temperatures tend to stay in the 50s and 60s in December, letting visitors better enjoy outdoor festivities such as the Holiday Festival of Lights, the national publication wrote. Eating at one of the many award-winning Charleston restaurants before or after stopping by the Holiday Market in Marion Square are also options.

And visitors can do this all while taking in Charleston’s historic charm, complete with centuries-old mansions, cobblestone alleys and gas lamp-lit streets, U.S. News wrote. Those who would enjoy diving deeper into history could also visit nearby Fort Sumter to learn about the Civil War or Emanuel AME Church, the spot where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered a historic speech, the publication adds.

Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, snagged the top spot for best Christmas vacation. U.S. News wrote that the city becomes “a winter wonderland” and that it has some of the best Christmas markets in the world.

Munich, Germany was ranked last on the list. The report states that visitors can embrace the cold as they tour the city, then warm up with a steaming mug of mulled wine from the annual Christmas market. You can also visit Neuschwanstein Castle, the inspiration for the Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella castles at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, the report states.
