SC has 4 of the best places for marriage proposals in the US, new ranking shows

If so, you might want to consider proposing in one of the nation’s best destinations to ask your other half.

A recent survey by Mixbook, a highly rated design platform for photo books, identified the top 250 most iconic landmarks for a marriage proposal or family vacation destinations this summer nationwide.

The survey revealed after polling 3,000 individuals, that those in the US are seemingly drawn toward “unique, Instagram-worthy locales” for popping the question.

Out of all 250 sites, four can be found within South Carolina.

The first of the four destinations in the Palmetto State was ranked sixth overall on the list and can be found at the Angel Oak Tree on Johns Island.

“For a proposal surrounded by history and nature, the ancient and majestic Angel Oak Tree creates a special and timeless atmosphere. The tree’s sprawling branches and shaded area provide an intimate space for a cherished moment,” the design platform states.

The Angel Oak Tree is 65 feet high with a circumference of 25.5 feet, shading an area of 17,000 square feet, and is a hot commodity as the destination receives approximately 400,000 visitors each year, according to the City of Charleston’s official website.

This tree is considered to be the largest Live Oak Tree found east of the Mississippi River and is estimated to be approximately 300 to 400 years old.

However, if you plan to visit the area or even follow through with your proposal, there are certain things you should know ahead of time.

Permits are required for weddings, wedding or engagement photo shoots and other special events. To obtain a permit, contact the City of Charleston’s Recreation Department for information on the permitting process as well as available dates and times by calling 843-724-7327.

Additionally blankets, drinks, food, props and tripods are not permitted on or around the famous and historic Angel Oak Tree.

As for the other popular destination sites to fulfill a proposal in South Carolina, two others reside in Charleston County and the fourth can be found in Greenville.

The Pitt Street Bridge in Mount Pleasant was found to be the 11th favorite location for a marriage proposal following the survey.

Also known as the Cove Inlet Bridge and the Cove Inlet Causeway, the Pitt Street Bridge was once the only way to cross the Charleston harbor from Mount Pleasant to the beach at Sullivan’s Island. Now, the locale stands as a coastal passage for exercise, leisurely strolls and fishing, says Experience Mount Pleasant, the town of Mount Pleasant’s official website for tourism, business and marketing.

Next, The Battery in Charleston was surprisingly ranked at 84th on the list. The Battery is a favorite destination for many to visit, and to propose.

The Battery is a landmark defensive seawall and promenade in Charleston, which is famous for its antebellum homes, detailed Traveler of Charleston Mag.

This area is known as one of downtown Charleston’s most visited and talked about spots.

The wall stretches along the shore of the Charleston peninsula, bordered by the Ashley and Cooper Rivers which come together to form the Charleston Harbor, according to Visit Historic Charleston.

Lastly, Liberty Bridge at Falls Park in Greenville made the list in 114th out of 250 for the best places for a marriage proposal in the country.
