SC has the 11th most popular natural landmark in the US, ranking shows. Have you visited it?

A South Carolina natural landmark was ranked 11th in the country by a recent poll.

What this landmark is may surprise you.

Aqua Expeditions, a company specializing in luxury small-ship expeditions to distant parts of the world, took a poll involving 2,100 Americans. The poll’s topic was about which local, natural landmark each person would most like to visit.

In the poll, South Carolina’s own Myrtle Beach State Park ranked in just 11th place out of any landmark in the country.

Myrtle Beach is in good company, coming in directly behind some pretty serious, nationally recognized natural landmarks.

The top 10 natural landmarks Americans would most like to visit, according to the poll of 2,100 individuals, include:

1. Great Smoky Mountains National Park- Tennessee

2. Niagara Falls- New York

3. Elephant Rocks- Missouri

4. Yellowstone National Park- Wyoming

5. Redwood National and State Parks- California

6. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park- Hawaii

7. Hanauma Bay- Hawaii

8. Pikes Peak State Park- Iowa

9. The Grand Canyon- Arizona

10. Waikīkī Beach- Hawaii

And number 11, Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach State Park offers miles of beaches, fishing, hiking, playgrounds, children’s nature programs, camping, fishing pier, picnic facilities and cabins available to you and your family.

The state park’s campground is home to 350 campsites. The different sites include tent, RV and large RV campsites. The cabins are available to rent and are located apart from the RV and tent campsites.

Pets are allowed at the park as long as they are on a 6-foot leash.

Among the top 250 landmarks voted to be the most popular in the country, South Carolina landmarks appeared on the list more than just once.

According to Aqua Expedition’s poll, South Carolina’s natural landmarks receiving top votes out of the 250 most popular in the nation include:

  • Myrtle Beach State Park ranked in 11th place.

  • Angel Oak ranked in 49th place.

  • Boneyard Beach ranked in 58th place.

  • Edisto River ranked in 142nd place.

  • Congaree National Park ranked in 207th place.
