Sarah Palin: My COVID diagnosis ‘proves anyone can catch this’

Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin says she and members of her family have tested positive for COVID-19, which indicates to her that no one is safe from deadly pandemic that has already taken the lives of 550,000 Americans.

“As confident as I’d like to be about my own health, and despite my joking that I’m blessed to constantly breathe in the most sterile (frozen!) air, my case is perhaps one of those that proves anyone can catch this,” she said in a statement to People magazine Wednesday.

According to the conservative politician, her family’s fight with COVID began when one of her daughters awoke with no sense of taste or smell and tested positive. Her 12-year-old son Trig, whom Palin called an “enthusiastic mask-wearer,” soon tested positive as well, she said. She noted that kids like Trig, who was born with Down syndrome, are especially vulnerable to the ramifications of COVID.

“That day I finally tested positive — like millions of other Americans,” Palin told People.

The 57-year-old Alaskan reportedly said in her statement that “there are more viruses than there are stars in the sky” and that no one can be completely safe, but she recommends a healthy lifestyle and vigilance.

“I strongly encourage everyone to use common sense to avoid spreading this and every other virus out there,” Palin stated.
