This week in Springfield-area food news: Try cuisine from around the world on Commercial Street and a veteran Ozarks chef starts a new sweet venture.

Plus, a favorite whiskey bar returns just for one night.

International food event comes to Commercial Street

Taste your way around the world along Commercial Street with the Hispanic Networking Group in the Ozarks' first international food carnaval.

The event will run from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday and feature venders serving everything from Indian cuisine to lemon shake-ups. There will also be live music and a free bachata class starting at 2 p.m. The Hispanic Networking Group in the Ozarks recommends people bring cash, since some vendors may not accept card.

Scotch & Soda returns for one night

Good Spirits & Co. is bringing back a beloved Springfield whiskey bar for one evening. Scotch & Soda will take over 1424 E. Cherry St., Suite A, on Saturday. Doors will open at 5 p.m.

"We are bringing our beloved Springfield Scotch and Soda back for one evening," Good Spirits & Co. posted on Instagram. "We have special guests, classic menu items, and the old playlist."

Reservations can be made on Tock and walk-ins are welcome, according to the post.

Scotch & Soda opened in 2012 and in 2017 was named one of the "40 Top Whisky Bars in the U.S." by Whisky Advocate. The whiskey bar closed in March 2020.

Veteran Ozarks chef sells her cake by the slice

Chef Stephanie Wigger's cake is back again at The Sweet Gypsy, a food truck located at 3245 W. Republic Road. Wigger was formerly the chef at The Gypsy 417.

The Sweet Gypsy will be hosting a bake sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, offering slices of scratch-made cake.

"It’s going to take us a couple weeks to get the new truck set up, but we are planning a pop up bake sale on Saturday in the new spot to help fund our new venture," The Sweet Gypsy said in a post.
