If there were any doubts that the New Orleans Saints signed Andy Dalton to be their backup quarterback, Dalton removed them today.

Dalton met the New Orleans media on Thursday, one day after it was announced he had signed a one-year contract with the Saints, worth $3 million guaranteed and possibly as much as $6 million.

Heading into his 12th professional season, Dalton should provide steady support for Jameis Winston, who the Saints re-signed earlier this offseason.

Dalton made it clear today that Winston is New Orleans’ QB1 and his main goal is to assist the former No. 1 overall pick.

Winston started seven games for the Saints in 2021 before tearing his ACL. He threw for 1,170 yards, 14 touchdowns and three interceptions.

New Orleans signed Winston to a two-year deal earlier this month, and the 28-year-old made it clear this week that he has the utmost confidence in his on-field abilities.

“I can do everything on the field,” Winston said, via NOLA.com. “I can do everything your favorite quarterback can do. Hopefully I’m your favorite quarterback. But I can. Like that’s just what my talent speaks for that.”
