Sahvir Wheeler, CJ Fredrick both out for Kentucky men’s basketball on Saturday at Georgia

Kentucky men’s basketball will once again be short-handed for another SEC game.

Sahvir Wheeler, who missed Tuesday night’s home loss to Arkansas with an ankle injury, will also be out for UK’s Saturday afternoon road game at Georgia.

Prior to Tuesday night’s game, Kentucky head coach John Calipari said Wheeler tweaked an ankle in practice. Wheeler was a game-time decision to play against the Razorbacks, and was considered day-to-day with the injury.

Additionally, CJ Fredrick will also miss Saturday’s game at Georgia with a rib injury. Fredrick initially suffered the injury during last weekend’s home win over Florida.

He played through the rib injury during UK’s Tuesday loss to Arkansas.

This sets up for Kentucky to have limited depth in its backcourt against Georgia, and likely paves the way for freshman guard Adou Thiero to receive significant playing time.

On Kentucky’s pregame radio show Saturday, UK head coach John Calipari mentioned that Thiero will need to step up for the Cats.

“Means Adou’s gotta step in and play,” Calipari said.
