Ree Drummond has a pretty good strategy for making sure Thanksgiving cooking runs smoothly: "I count backward from Thanksgiving and make a list of what has to be done the day before, two days before—all the way back to Monday," explains Ree. Still, whether you prep the week or the day before, you're going to have to make at least one major trip to the grocery store. And on top of all that food, you still have to grab Thanksgiving decorations like pretty placemats and tablecloths, too.

Needless to say, getting everything together for Turkey Day including ingredients for your entire Thanksgiving menu is no small feat. With everything going on, there's a chance you'll forget something important... which means a second, last-minute grocery trip is all but guaranteed. But wait: Are there even grocery stores open on Thanksgiving? What about Safeway's Thanksgiving store hours?

So, is Safeway open on Thanksgiving?

Unsurprisingly, many of your favorite supermarkets won't be open on the holiday to give employees the chance to spend time with their loved ones (for instance, Walmart is closed on Thanksgiving!). However, some stores will operate at reduced hours in 2023 to give customers a chance to pick up anything they forgot before cooking dinner... including Safeway! A representative confirmed to ThePioneerWoman.com that you can expect the supermarket's doors to be open. "On Thanksgiving Day, Safeway stores will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with our pharmacies open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.," the representative said.

Another rep confirmed that a majority of Albertsons Companies’ other banner stores will be open on Thanksgiving Day. As always, customers should call their local store ahead of time to see when they expect to open (if at all). You can also check hours online with the Safeway store locator tool.

Feel like skipping the whole cooking thing entirely? There are many restaurants open on Thanksgiving, too—and if a few extra bottles of wine is what you're after, there are many states where liquor stores will be open on Thanksgiving as well. You'll go into this year's Turkey Day prepared for anything that comes your way!
