Safe Kids Day set for Saturday at Massillon Boys and Girls Club

MASSILLON – Children and their families are invited to attend Safe Kids Day 2024 on Saturday at the Boys and Girls Club of Massillon, 730 Duncan St. SW.

The event features free activities for all ages and information about staying safe.

"We do this every year," said Logan Valentine, child injury prevention coordinator for the Stark County Health Department and coordinator of Safe Kids Stark County.

"We have held them throughout Stark County - Brewster, Minerva, Alliance, Plain Township and now Massillon. Our focus is on safety for kids and their families and everything is free."

Organizers expect anywhere from 200 to 500 people.

"It's a great event and we'll have safety presentations like bike safety," he said. "It's all the different kinds of things you need to gear up for a safe summer."

Here's what you want to know if you attend:

  • From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., visitors are welcome to meet with local organizations focusing on safety, children and families. Each vendor will have giveaways and special activities.

  • Check out emergency vehicles like police cruisers and firetrucks.

  • Get a free haircut and a free snack while listening to live music.

  • Check out a drone demonstration and pet a therapy dog.

  • Parents can have their child's car seat checked to ensure proper installation. Kids can learn bike safety tips.

  • Enter into giveaways for around 40 items including bikes, fishing poles, remote control cars and craft kits.
