Sadie Sink Reveals Why She Almost Didn't Get Cast in "Stranger Things"

It's hard to imagine the world of Stranger Things without Max, the badass skater girl portrayed by none other than Sadie Sink. The 20-year-old actress has brought Max's story to our screens for three seasons now, and her performance as the troubled teen in Stranger Things 4 was met with critical acclaim. So, when Sadie told Fashion magazine that she nearly didn't land the breakout role back in 2017, it came as a total shock to fans of the beloved sci-fi series.

Sadie told the outlet that Stranger Things' casting directors found her too old for the role, despite being only 14 at the time she auditioned. While she's one of the older cast members of the Hawkins bunch, she still radiates chemistry with other stars like Millie Bobby Brown, Caleb McLoughlin, and Gaten Matarazzo on screen. She dished that the role of Max just "felt right" to her, so she didn't back down from the casting challenge.

"I just begged and pleaded with them to give me more material so I could show them something fresh," Sadie explained how she persisted. Netflix eventually called her back for a chemistry read with Caleb and Gaten, and the next day, she officially landed the role. When it comes to her connection with her castmates, Sadie told the outlet that there's a comfort in knowing they're all in this industry together.

"It's such a weird and specific situation that the Strangers Things cast and I are all in because the world knows who our characters are but we're still trying to figure out who we are as people," she said. "I think being in the industry accelerates you and you mature faster. But for the most part, it's just so fun because the cast is all going through it together."
