New Sacramento bakery is bringing bagels, empanadas to this ‘forgotten’ neighborhood

A new bakery is bringing freshly baked bagels and empanadas to Sacramento.

Forgotten Bakery will officially open its doors on Saturday at 4650 Stockton Blvd., the business announced Wednesday in a news release.

Nestled by the Fruitridge Pocket and Colonial Heights neighborhoods, the bakery focuses on beer-fermented, hand-rolled and honey-boiled bagels and Chilean-style empanadas made from a family recipe.

The bakery is a walk-up concept, allowing customers to order online or through a kiosk.

After picking up your order, you can stick around and enjoy your food on the patio.

Why does new Sacramento bakery focus on bagels and empanadas?

Forgotten Bakery is a product of partners and co-founders Robbie Naim and Paul Dollar and their upbringings.

Naim, who was born in Sacramento but grew up in the Bay Area, comes from a bagel-making background.

He told The Sacramento Bee in January that his family used to have a bagel factory, Bagel Mania Bakery, in the Bay Area.

“I grew up with bagels and being in the factory all the time,” Naim said. “It’s just part of our life.”

Dollar brings Chilean roots and culinary passion to the business.

He always made empanadas for his family on holidays, his partner said.

“We kind of combined those two ideas together — empanadas and bagels — and came up with the idea of opening a bakery for both,” Naim said.

Co-owner: Forgotten Bakery brings ‘something new’ to area

Sacramento has long been a constant in Naim’s and Dollar’s lives. Both of them used to come to the city often to visit family.

Dollar, who was born and raised in Miami, frequented Sacramento because his father was raised in the Colonial Heights neighborhood.

Naim said the purpose of bringing Forgotten Bakery to Sacramento was to create something nice for the community.

“There were a lot of new people who have moved into Sacramento, also to this area,” Naim said. “But the people who have been living here for 30, 40, 50 years, they deserve something new and on Stockton Boulevard.”

“I feel like it’s been forgotten,” Naim said about the area. “We want to bring back something to the community, something to the neighborhood that brings people together in the area.”

There’s a lot of potential, he said.

“We are not looking to compete,” Dollar said in the release. “We are looking to create a new segment for Sacramento in our beloved neighborhood especially since we also live down the street.”
