Ryle graduate and former Kentucky Miss Basketball Maddie Scherr transfers to TCU

Ryle graduate and basketball star Maddie Scherr will transfer to TCU from the University of Kentucky.

Scherr announced the move on her social media Thursday evening.

Scherr, a senior, averaged 12.5 points per game to go along with 4.8 rebounds and 3.4 assists for the Wildcats last season, her second with the Wildcats after transferring from Oregon. She will use her bonus COVID year of collegiate eligibility to play a fifth season with TCU, which was 21-12 last season.

Scherr signed with Oregon after graduating from Ryle in 2020, when she was named a McDonald’s All-American and Kentucky Miss Basketball.

She has 859 career points and 352 assists, more than 3.3 per game.

Earlier Thursday, Scherr announced she was leaving UK, posting in part, "Bluegrass girl for life! I’m so thankful for the opportunity to play for my home state with such an amazing community of support behind me. I have loved being part of this program and am forever grateful for the relationships and memories made. I do not take for granted any moment I got to wear Kentucky on the front of my jersey."

Scherr joins All-American Hailey Van Lith as new member of the TCU roster. Van Lith, a member of the 2020 McDonald’s All-American class with Scherr, also announced a transfer on Thursday, She leaves LSU, which lost to Iowa in the Elite Eight, averaging 11.6 points and 3.6 assists for the Tigers.

Van Lith led Louisville, coached by Highlands grad Jeff Walz, to the Final Four in 2022, and has 1,936 career points.

TCU is in the Big-12 Conference with Cincinnati. The Horned Frogs played at Fifth Third Arena this past season, winning 79-72 on Feb. 17.
