Ryan Sutter is opening up about the responses he got over his cryptic Mother’s Day post.

The Bachelorette star, 49, shared his thoughts on getting thrust back into the media spotlight in light of his May 12 Instagram post dedicated to wife Trista Sutter, alongside a black-and-white photo of his dog on Instagram.

He opened the post by saying that he “mostly” shares photos of his dog and highlighted his “normal” life with a “blue collar job” outside of his TV fame. However, he noted that “every now and then, people still pay attention” and that was “recently the case.”

“I strayed from the safety of the usual dog theme and chose to post a message to my wife for a time when she could eventually read it,” Ryan wrote. “She understood the context and so did I. No one else did however, and that’s where things went sideways.”

“It was suggested that Trista had died, we were in trouble or that it must be a mid life crisis among many other creative ideas. Some thought I was intentionally misleading people in order to somehow benefit from it?" he continued. “It got picked up on entertainment news sites and I started getting texts from friends asking if I was ok. All because I missed my wife and chose to share how that felt.”

Ryan said that it was “weird to wear the clothes of past fame once again," though he also understood that people still “cared” about their lives, even though they hadn’t been on TV for “21 years.” "It reminded me of how crazy life was and of how grateful I am for the life I have," he added.

“To be honest, it also felt good to know people still cared, and worried and wondered. It felt good to be noticed and inspired me to do better at paying attention to others - when they do good or when they need help. In the end, like most things, everything turned out ok,” he concluded the post, adding that he would go back to posting about his dog “for a bit.”

The post sparked concern for Trista online, which prompted Ryan to share a follow-up post to clarify that he and his wife were doing “great” despite her being "inaccessible" to her family right now. However, he did not give any details on her whereabouts.

"Trista is at a place in life where she is searching a bit," he wrote at the time. "An opportunity presented itself that may help her on that quest. With her family’s support, she has taken it. Part of that process means that she is temporarily inaccessible to us."

"I miss her. We miss her," Ryan concluded.
