Ryan O’Hearn had funny reaction to seeing how upset fans were about his return to Royals
Hours before Royals CEO John Sherman shared an open letter to fans Tuesday about a possible stadium in downtown Kansas City in the future, the team made a number roster moves.
It’s safe to say, one move in particular wasn’t popular with the fans.
First baseman Ryan O’Hearn agreed to a big-league contract for 2023, avoiding arbitration and that infuriated more than a few Royals supporters.
O’Hearn, 29, batted .367 as a pinch-hitter and had an MLB-best 11 pinch hits in 2022, as the Royals noted and batted .321 after the All-Star Game. Overall, O’Hearn had a .239 average with one home run and 16 RBIs in 67 games.
In 342 career games in five seasons with the Royals, O’Hearn has batted .219 with a .293 on-base percentage and .390 slugging percentage. It’s those numbers that let to an outpouring of anger, surprise and disgust on Twitter that the Royals are bringing O’Hearn back in 2023.
Here are just a few of the things fans were saying.
You better get rid of O’Hearn or mark my words I will not pay a dime to watch you play or come to the K and I’m not alone! It’s time to make real baseball decisions and he’s not a big leaguer he’s had his chance!

Since his rookie year, Ryan O’Hearn has posted wRC+ of 68, 64, 69, and 72 in the 4 seasons since. There is *zero* reason to bring him back on a major league contract.

The year is 2076, twenty years after the fall of the United States, food shortages have led to the rise of guerilla states, violently controlling the production and trade of food within their borders

It seems O’Hearn saw at least some of the outrage, because he shared a funny meme on Twitter and wrote: “Seems like a good day to check twi…”

Fans mostly laughed with O’Hearn after seeing his response, although a few took a shot at him. Here are just a few of the responses.
Hope they’re right and you have a much much better year.
