After premiering at Sundance Film Festival, Greta Lee's new movie Past Lives has reached a coveted Rotten Tomatoes score.

The film, which recently played at Berlinale, has landed a 100% rating on the movie review aggregator at the time of writing, garnering praise from critics.

Filmmaker Celine Song's directorial debut chronicles the decades-long connection between Nora (Lee) and Hae Sung (Teo Yoo). The two protagonists first meet in primary school, where their childhood romance comes to a halt when Nora emigrates to Canada with her family.

Their paths cross again 12 years later, when Nora lives in New York and tries to make it as a playwright. They reconnect on social media and imagine a reunion, but fate has twists in store for them before they can finally meet again.

Ever since its premiere, A24's Past Lives has been hailed as one of the most impressive debuts out of this year's Sundance and one to keep an eye out for once a release date is announced. Check out what some of the critics have been saying below:

Vox

"It’s hard to imagine Past Lives not being one of 2023’s most talked-about films, and it richly deserves the honor... It’s unbearably wistful, landing its story with a gentle kindness that somehow turns the bittersweet into something beautiful."

Slate

"It’s most powerful as a vessel for the movie’s meditations on regret and loss, and especially what it feels like to lose something you never really had."

The Hollywood Reporter

"For a movie in which the characters often dance around their feelings without directly addressing them, Past Lives speaks volumes. It’s only January, but there’s no doubt it will be one of the best films of the year."

ScreenRant

"Past Lives contemplates the idea of fate, of the connection between two people and what can bind and bring them together in any given lifetime. To say the film is riveting and magnetic would be a wild understatement. Past Lives will leave one with goosebumps; it’s soulful, tender – an understated triumph. Song’s directing and writing is confident, bringing so much heart and nuance to a simple story that is inspiring, delicate, and evocative."

Collider

"Song’s work here is incredible, as this story of the past and present, and what it means for the future is a carefully handled story told with love and heart... Past Lives isn’t just the best film of this year's Sundance Film Festival, it also will likely go down as one of the best films of 2023."
