There are a lot of parallels between the careers of quarterbacks Ben Roethlisberger and Russell Wilson. With Roethlisberger retiring, Wilson has reflected on Big Ben’s Hall of Fame career.

Taking to Twitter last night, Wilson congratulated Roethlisberger on an incredible career. He called him a “legend” and “generational” – much to the delight of over 50,000 NFL fans.

“Congrats Big Ben. Legend. Generational,” Wilson wrote.

Even though the Seahawks and Steelers faced off three times over the past 10 years, Wilson and Roethlisberger only really went toe-to-toe 1.5 times. Their first meeting in 2015 was an instant classic, but their 2019 meeting saw Roethlisberger leave early with an injury.

Wilson missed this year’s meeting with an injury of his own.

There are a number of interesting parallels to the careers of Ben Roethlisberger and Russell Wilson. Both quarterbacks got the starting job as rookies and were Super Bowl champions by their second years in the league. They’ve also been to multiple Super Bowls, though Roethlisberger has one more ring than Wilson does.

The early success of Big Ben and Wilson can be attributed in large part to their defenses, but their development into elite passers helped put their teams over the top in recent years.

Ultimately, the most relevant common trait that Roethlisberger and Wilson will go down as sharing is being elite QBs.

It seems inevitable that both will have busts in Canton someday.
