Russell Crowe Debuts New Look After Shaving Beard for the First Time Since 2019

Russell Crowe officially shed his beard.

The award-winning entertainer revealed on social media earlier this week that he's walking around with a fresh new look and without a beard for the first time in nearly five years.

On Monday, Feb. 19, he shared a photo of himself staring down the camera while slyly showing off his cleanly-shaven face on X (formerly Twitter), causing many internet users to do a double-take.

"The actor prepares #20," he captioned the upload. "First shave since 2019."

Fans appeared to support the style switch up, replying to the post to share their opinion.

"Wow, you look 20 years younger!" one exclaimed.

"Looks good! It’s nice to change it up and shave," another added. "You have a nice face it was hiding behind all that hair."

"Any role you do, you do it well," a third gushed, while also sharing a gif of Crowe from a scene in the 2000 film Gladiator where–in character as Maximus–he screamed, "are you not entertained?"

"oh THERE you are," someone else joked.

More curious followers were hoping that the 59-year-old L.A. Confidential alum would offer up more insight into why he decided to shave after all these years.

"I want to know what movie you are about to make, clean shaven is good," one wrote back.

"What are you preparing for?" another asked.

"Ooooh! Is it a sequel to Virtuosity?!" a third guessed. "Love that movie!"

While Crowe has yet to confirm what the reason for his shave was, according to IMDb, he has several projects either in production or in pre-production, including the drama Nuremberg, the action film The Beast in Me and the crime-drama American Son.
