RuPaul: US ‘moments from f‑‑‑ing civil war’

RuPaul is in the process of constructing a concrete compound in anticipation of a domestic conflict, saying the U.S. is “moments away from f‑‑‑ing civil war.”

“I’m fearing the absolute worst,” the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” host said in a profile in The New Yorker published Friday.

“All the signs are there,” RuPaul said of his prediction of an impending civil war.

“Humans on this planet are in the cycle of destruction,” he told journalist Ronan Farrow of the 60,000-acre ranch he’s building in Wyoming with his husband, Georges LeBar.

“I am plotting a safety net,” he said.

While the 63-year-old Emmy Award winner said he wouldn’t consider the structure a “bunker,” it’s made of “a lot of concrete and a lot of things.”

The comments from RuPaul, who was born RuPaul Charles, come as a flurry of anti-LGBTQ and anti-drag show legislation has been introduced across the country. Last year, at least 510 anti-LGBTQ bills were introduced in 46 states, according to the American Civil Liberties Union, with more than 80 becoming law.

Last year, a Texas law prohibiting certain “sexually oriented” performances from taking place on public property or where they may be viewed by minors was ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge.

The Supreme Court refused an emergency request last November from Florida to reinstate its law targeting drag shows. The bill, signed into law by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), made it a misdemeanor to knowingly admit a child to an “adult live performance,” which was defined, in part, as shows that depict “lewd conduct” or “lewd exposure of prosthetic or imitation genitals or breasts.”
